Sub: THE STATE OF THE MUSLIM UMMAH AND THE PATH TO SALVATION

Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings.

May this letter find you in the best state of physical & spiritual health and faith, with the grace of Allah (Exalted be He).

Your Excellency,

We write to you at a time of profound trial for the global Muslim Ummah — a moment that demands the urgent attention of every Muslim leader, diplomat, and public servant who carries the trust of our faith and our people. As an ambassador representing a Muslim nation, you hold a position of immense responsibility, not merely toward your government, but before Allah (SWT) and before the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It is in this spirit, and with sincere hearts, that we address you today.

The Muslim Ummah today constitutes nearly two billion souls — a quarter of humanity. Fifty-seven Muslim-majority nations exist on this earth, endowed with vast natural resources, expansive lands, and young populations brimming with potential. Yet in global political influence, scientific achievement, economic strength, and strategic standing, we fall grievously short of what our numbers and our faith demand of us. This is not a coincidence, nor is it the result of external forces alone. Allah (SWT) has told us plainly:

ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِي النَّاسِ

— Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by reason of what the hands of people have earned (Surah Ar-Rum: 41). The condition we find ourselves in today is, at its root, a reflection of our own collective departure from the path of Allah.

Your Excellency, when we look honestly at the state of the Muslim world, the picture is one that should stir every believing heart. The unity that Allah commanded —

وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللّٰهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا

— Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 103) — has been replaced by sectarian rivalry, ethnic division, and narrow national interests. Fifty-seven nations share membership in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, yet on the gravest crises facing our Ummah — Palestine, Kashmir, Burma — a unified and resolute Muslim voice is nowhere to be found. Our brothers and sisters in Palestine have bled for decades. The Muslims of Kashmir live under oppression. The Rohingya faced genocide. And the collective conscience of the Muslim world has grown disturbingly quiet. The Prophet ﷺ described the believers as one body — when one limb suffers, the entire body responds with sleeplessness and fever (Sahih Muslim). Today that body has not only fallen ill; it has lost the very ability to feel the pain of its ailing limbs.

Alongside this political fragmentation, we witness a deep intellectual and moral decline. There was a time when the libraries of Baghdad, Cordoba, and Samarkand were the lanterns of the entire civilised world. Muslim scholars laid the foundations of medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy upon which much of modern Western progress stands. Today, the Muslim world contributes less than two percent of global scientific research — and this in an Ummah whose very first divine command was اِقْرَاْ — Read (Surah Al-Alaq: 1). Corruption, injustice, and the abuse of public trust have become familiar features of our political landscape, when Allah commanded those entrusted with authority: Render the trusts to their rightful owners, and when you judge between people, judge with justice (Surah An-Nisa: 58). And perhaps most telling of all, the love of this world and the neglect of the Hereafter — what the Prophet ﷺ called wahn — has weakened our resolve and diminished our courage (Sunan Abu Dawud).

Your Excellency, fourteen centuries ago, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ foretold this very condition with striking precision. He described a time when nations would gather against the Muslims as hungry guests crowd around a shared meal — not because the Muslims were few in number, but because they were like the foam of the ocean: plentiful yet weightless, numerous yet without substance. The reason, he ﷺ explained, would be wahn: the love of the world and the hatred of death (Sunan Abu Dawud). This is not a prophecy of inevitable doom. It is a diagnosis — and every diagnosis carries within it the possibility of a cure.

The cure begins with an honest return to what we have abandoned. The Prophet ﷺ said:

تَرَكْتُ فِيكُمْ أَمْرَيْنِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوا مَا تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِمَا: كِتَابَ اللّٰهِ وَسُنَّةَ نَبِيِّهِ

— I leave among you two things; you will never go astray as long as you hold fast to them — the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet (Muwatta Imam Malik). The path back to dignity and strength for this Ummah does not lie in political maneuvering alone, nor in military power, nor in the accumulation of wealth. It lies in the sincere return of the Muslim individual, the Muslim family, and the Muslim state to the teachings of the Quran and the example of the Prophet ﷺ. Everything else — unity, justice, knowledge, strength — flows naturally from this single source.

Allah (SWT) has given us a principle that is both a warning and a promise:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

— Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves (Surah Ar-Ra'd: 11). The change we seek in our Ummah must begin within each one of us — in our intentions, our character, our honesty, and our commitment to justice. And for those in positions of leadership and influence, this responsibility is multiplied. You, Your Excellency, carry in your hands a trust that belongs to millions — the trust of your people, your faith, and your Lord. The Prophet ﷺ reminded us that every one of us is a shepherd, and every shepherd will be asked about his flock (Sahih Bukhari).

We write to you as part of a nationwide awareness campaign this August, devoted to the awakening of the Muslim Ummah and the renewal of our collective purpose. We humbly request that you lend your distinguished voice and your esteemed platform to the cause of Muslim unity and justice. We ask that you, in your diplomatic conduct and public standing, uphold the values of truth, fairness, and compassion that our faith demands — that you raise the voice of the oppressed wherever you have the ability to be heard, and that you inspire those around you to return to the source of our strength. Allah (SWT) has commanded:

وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ

— And let there be arising from you a nation inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 104). And He has promised:

وَنُرِيدُ أَن نَّمُنَّ عَلَى الَّذِينَ اسْتُضْعِفُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَنَجْعَلَهُمْ أَئِمَّةً وَنَجْعَلَهُمُ الْوَارِثِينَ

— We desired to confer favour upon those who were oppressed in the land and to make them leaders and to make them inheritors (Surah Al-Qasas: 5). This promise stands. It awaits only our sincerity and our effort. In light of Allah Almighty's promise in the Holy Qur'an: “یا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِن تَنصُرُوا اللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ “Believers, if you aid Allah, He will come to your aid and will plant your feet firmly” (Surah Muhammad:7)

We close with hope and with prayer. May Allah (SWT) grant you wisdom, protect you in your responsibilities, and make you among those who serve this Ummah with honesty and courage. May He unite the hearts of the Muslims, restore our honor, and make us once again a people who stand for truth, justice, and his divine guidance.
